POV: My Sister; A Departure:
Yesterday, I said goodbye
With an aching heart
I left your beliefs and morals discarded on your doorstep
Now I travel the sea with a freedom I’ve never known
I see the summer rain kiss the grass as I shield my skin from the sun
I see no more hollow eyes or hear no more angered cries
I see no misery
I taste the heavens in someone else’s secrets
Relearning what it’s like to be important
I know the depths have knocked on my brain one too many times
But I watched you falter and knew I’d never follow in your footsteps
I tamed some beasts that had hidden themselves in my ribcage
And made friends with the dandelions that were stuck in my teeth
My innocence may be gone, but I never will forget
What it’s like to dance in the forest with the fae
Their wings ripped but never torn
My shadows still linger but they haven’t overtaken me
They will never overtake me
My childhood may have been swallowed by a devil I never met
But my future is still on the horizon
And I will only look forward.
